ENGINEERING EDUCATION SYSTEM
Until 2009 taining in Engineering was organized at two different levels:
1. The Escuelas Técnicas Superiores de Ingenieria, which grant the degrees
- “Ingeniero”
- “Doctor en Ingenieria”
The title of “Ingeniero” is obtained after passing 6 years’ study, subdivided into two cycles as follows:
- first cycle of 2 or 3 years
- second cycle of 3 or 2 years
2. The Escuelas Universitarias de Ingenieria Técnica whose graduates are called:
“Ingenieros Técnicos”, after have completed one cycle of 3 year education.
These schools are totally independent and the graduate of a Escuela Universitaria de Ingeniería Técnica can move into a Escuela Técnica Superior provided he attends a bridge course (particularly based on mathematics).
With the new legislative Acts of October 2007 the titles of “Ingeniero tecnico” and “Ingeniero” have been reformed into ” Ingeniero de Grado” and ” Ingeniero Master”. Ingeniero de Grado will take a study of 240 ECTS and Ingeniero Master an additional study of 60 ECTS up to 120 ECTS.
Only the “Ingenieros” and the “Ingenieros Master” comply with the criteria established to be registered in the CLAIU-EU “MERCURIUS” REGISTER.
